About Us

Building Community Kai Gardens was founded with a passion for sustainability and a commitment to fighting climate change through community gardening.

Our team believes that by working together and sharing knowledge and skills, we can create a greener and healthier future for all.

With this focus on setting up community kai gardens in Porirua, we invite you to join us in this important mission and make a positive long-term impact on the environment and our community.

We are looking for local groups (5 or more people) who will identify a suitable area (preferably part of a school grounds) near them which could become a kai garden and which they would commit to supporting for the next 10 years.

Our team will then support the group to obtain access to this site and help them establish a community kai garden.

We will also negotiate with the Porirua City Council, and the Iwi on their behalf for funding, expertise and compost to maintain the kai garden.

At present our focus is on securing backing from the Iwi, negotiating how our gardens will be managed with PCC, and promoting the Kai gardens project with selected schools and their wider communities.

This is a lengthy 'not-able-to-be expedited' process.

We will celebrate with you as soon as we have 'green-lights' on all 3 areas of negotiation.
